New Leaders

We are proud to announce that there are two leaders coming from Area K2 for the term 2009/2010

1. Division K Governor - Datuk Hassan Alban Sandukong, ACG, from Sandakan Toastmasters Club & Sandakan Pidato Toastmasters Club. He will take over from Annie Cheng, DTM from 1st July 2009.

2. Area K2 Governor - Eleanor Fabia Pang, ACS, from Tawau Toastmasters Club. She will take over from Datin Grace Chiu, ACB.

Congratulations to the newly elected leaders. We are hoping to see more colours in Division K and Area K2

Grace Yong, Division K International Speech Champion

Past President of Tawau Toastmasters Club, Grace Yong, lived up to the expectation of all her supporters by winning the 2009 Division K International Speech Contest. Division K covers Toastmasters clubs from Sabah, Labuan and Brunei. 

Grace Yong’s speech, A for Attitude, stole the hearts of the judges at the Division contest held on 29th March 2009 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. 

She will be representing Division K to the District 51 International Speech contest to be held in Kuching middle of this month. District 51 covers Toastmasters clubs in Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. 

Grace has earlier won the Area K2 International Speech Contest held at Sandakan on 21st February 2009. Area K2 consists of Toastmasters club in Tawau, Lahad Datu and Sandakan. 

Toastmasters International Speech Contest is held yearly. It is open to all active club members who have delivered a minimum of 6 speeches at the club level. This is part of the club’s activities besides providing opportunities for members to improve on their public speaking, communication, listening and thinking skills. Millions of people around the world have benefited from the training of Toastmasters since it was founded by Dr. Ralph C Smedley.

Grace Yong was Tawau Toastmasters Club president for the term 2005/2006. She was formerly a banker and a housewife at present. She has been a very active and dedicated member of Tawau Toastmasters Club and has held various posts before becoming its president. She has also taken part in many speech contests prior to winning this title and hoping to perform even better at the next level.

District 51 Splits in 20010

At the recent Toastmasters International (TI) Board of Directors meeting in February 2009, TI has approved our proposal for the reformation of District 51. District 51 will now start the process on reformation of the district to 2 districts, namely

District 51 Peninsula : will consist of all clubs in Semenanjung Malaysia.

District 51 Rest : will consist of all clubs in Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei & Indonesia.

The process of this reformation will start in the term 2009 – 2010 and the district will officially function as 2 districts in the term 2010 – 2011.

Area K2 International and Table Topics Speech Contests 2009

Dear Fellow-Toastmasters,

Sincere Appreciations to our Contest Chair- Eleanor Wong DTM, Chief-Judge Lee Chye Ewe DTM aand their hard-working team,Sandakan Toastmasters Club have successfully conducted the Area K2- International and Table Topic contests on 21st Feb. 2009.

There is no disqualification and here are the results:

International Speech Contests.

1. Champion---------Grace Yong (club no. 3357)              speech title: "A is for Altitude"

2. 1st Runner-up----Nurifrideri B. Bederi  (club no. 6365)  speech title : "Champion"

3. 2nd Runner-up----Ling How Kee  (club no. 7465)          speech title : "How to be a Master of Communication?"

Table Topic Contests.  "Is A Clean and Green Environment keep you healthy?"

The Champions from both the contests will take a greater challenge to represent Area k2 to the Division -Level  on 29th March at the Division K- Annual Convention in Kota Kinabalu.
