Grace Yong, Division K International Speech Champion



Past President of Tawau Toastmasters Club, Grace Yong, lived up to the expectation of all her supporters by winning the 2009 Division K International Speech Contest. Division K covers Toastmasters clubs from Sabah, Labuan and Brunei. 

Grace Yong’s speech, A for Attitude, stole the hearts of the judges at the Division contest held on 29th March 2009 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. 

She will be representing Division K to the District 51 International Speech contest to be held in Kuching middle of this month. District 51 covers Toastmasters clubs in Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. 

Grace has earlier won the Area K2 International Speech Contest held at Sandakan on 21st February 2009. Area K2 consists of Toastmasters club in Tawau, Lahad Datu and Sandakan. 

Toastmasters International Speech Contest is held yearly. It is open to all active club members who have delivered a minimum of 6 speeches at the club level. This is part of the club’s activities besides providing opportunities for members to improve on their public speaking, communication, listening and thinking skills. Millions of people around the world have benefited from the training of Toastmasters since it was founded by Dr. Ralph C Smedley.

Grace Yong was Tawau Toastmasters Club president for the term 2005/2006. She was formerly a banker and a housewife at present. She has been a very active and dedicated member of Tawau Toastmasters Club and has held various posts before becoming its president. She has also taken part in many speech contests prior to winning this title and hoping to perform even better at the next level.
