Breaking News!!

Dear fellow Toastmasters,

I just received a very good news from DG Joseph who is in Calgary, Canada
right now, attending the Toastmasters International Convention. Our district
representative for the international speech contest, K, Loghandaran has won
the InterDistrict contest and will take his place this Saturday, in the
final of the World Championship of Public Speaking.

This is a feat in District 51 as this is the first time a District 51
representative has made it to the final! Fantastic achievement!!

Let's us pray and send our thoughts that Loghandaran will again make us
proud this Saturday and keep our flag flying high.

Courage to conquer!

Warmest regards,
Clement Pang, DTM

For the album

I was supposed to attend Sandakan Toastmasters Club's 13th Installation Banquet with some members of my club but the rest could not make it at the last minutes. So I was the sole representative from Tawau. But what an evening it was.

The venue was at English Tea House which oversees the whole of Sandakan town during the day. It was warm since the afternoon but minutes before the function started, it began to drizzle. The guests were not really affected as they were all seated under the shade prepared earlier. However the stage was definitely affected.

There were some panics especially the organiser and speakers. I was not worried as I expected the rain to stop in a while. Furthermore, I was not one of the speakers. I was telling myself, the organiser really took their President's theme "The Courage To Conquer" seriously by having the courage to conquer even the uncertainty of nature! Well they have succeeded. The rain stopped and the night went on fine with much joyous and memorable moments.

Having the chance to meet up with old friends again is certainly something that we always look forward to. Clubs in Sandakan and Tawau are always closely related. Installation function like this is one of those opportunities that members from both clubs could meet and mingle.

I was certainly not expected to be invited to sing and later to received an award as unofficial mentor and advisor to the out going President Grace.

Congratulations to President Norman Chin and his team of executive committee members and the Organising team lead by Alice Kok.
